Daniel Ponce

Daniel Ponce
A Cuban conga player who had a record deal with Island Records where I was one of the art directors.
Daniel had an interesting life, part of which was in a Cuban prison. He showed me the tattoo on the inside of his lower lip.
The album cover I was working on was called “Chango Te Amo”, “Chango, I Love You”.
Chango is an Orisha, a type of spirit in the Yoruba religion and I had to go to the home of a Santeria priestess in the Bronx and photograph an alter and various religious artifacts frm the Santeria religion to use on the cover.
I did this assignment with some reverance. One has to keep an open mind…
