Joan Armatrading

This is the sole surviving image that I have from my shooting with Joan. I had been hired to go with Joan and the A&M Records promotion guy and visit NYC radio DJs. I saw that during the visits, that Joan really wasn’t into being photographed and was “just putting up with it”.

When the A&M publicist told Joan that there were many femaie photographers in Manhattan and perhaps she would be more comfortable working with a woman.

Joan said, “What about that guy you sent with me yesterday?”
