Melissa Etheridge

Melissa was 19 years old and had come to NYC to finish her first LP. I got the assignment to photograph her for her cover.

She was extremely shy and for the first half hour of the shooting, I wasn’t getting “anything” from her. I finally asked her if she had her recordings with her and she gave me a cassette. I put the cassette in the player and cranked up the volume.

“Sing Melissa”, I said.
